A Day In Wears: Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation

Hello loves! Today I wanted to try a little bit of a different post, and I’m super excited about it. For me, one of the most important qualities in my makeup products is that they last pretty much all day, and don’t require much maintenance. So a Day In Wears is going to be a new series where I check in with you all as the day goes on and see how whichever product I’m testing out that day is wearing. And today’s product is the new Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation. This foundation is also Mattifying and oil free. I was given a sample after making a purchase at Sephora and decided to give it a try. (This also explains why this foundation is slightly/incredibly the wrong shade for my skin tone. I just blended it down my neck, like a lot.) I was given the shade Nude, which as mentioned, wasn’t the shade I would choose for myself but I made it work. Upon first application this foundation is incredibly matte. Like you-look-kind-of-dead-until-you-put-the-rest-of-your-makeup-on matte. Which is really great for if you plan on taking any pictures that day, you will only shine where you want to!

8:00am: first application, and looking flawless.
11:00am: making lunch for the kids I was babysitting, and still looking awesome!
3:00pm: right after my hair cut, you like? And still feeling good about the makeup! It had settled a little bit along the sides of my nose so I blotted that away, but otherwise looking good!

7:00pm: getting ready for a going away party for a friend, and noticing a bit of wear and tear. Definitely emphasizing my dry patches, and needing some touch-ups on blemishes. I applied a little bit of concealer where I needed it.

10:00pm: after applying a bit of concealer on a few more obvious blemishes. Not looking too bad!

And yes, I realize I am not wearing the same top in any of these pictures. My first top is my PJ shirt, then I threw a sweat shirt over my navy v-neck for the second shot since it was cold, took off the sweatshirt for my hair cut, then came home and threw on an oversized tshirt to nap in, and then changed for the bonfire. So yeah. It was a crazy day, but all the better to test out this foundation. I was incredibly impressed by how long this product lasted and the flawless finish it gave my skin. I have dry to combination skin, and I did notice that towards the middle and end of the day that you could see the foundation clinging to any dry patches I had. That being said, I probably wouldn’t recommend this to anyone with very dry skin. If you have normal, oily, or combination and are looking for a flawless finish, I highly recommend this product. It was very light feeling on the skin, one of my pet peeves is super thick and goopy foundations, and this was not one of them. The only thing that catches me up on this product is the price. It’s $55 for 1oz of product. To me, that’s a little bit much. So if you have the money, this would be a great everyday flawless face for the office, or if you just want to save it for special occasions, that’d work too. I hope you guys have found this helpful! Have a fabulous day!

Easy Updates: Spring Makeup

Hello loves! Happy Thursday! To round out this series on easy spring updates, I wanted to do a section on beauty. For me, transitioning into warmer weather means less products and focusing on glowing healthy skin. So let’s jump into my spring makeup must-haves!

No. 1: Tinted Moisturizer. I love tinted moisturizer for a multitude of reasons, and it’s a staple all year round, but I appreciate it most in the warmer months. Tinted moisturizers usually include SPF, which means you can skip the sunscreen step on a daily basis. (If you plan to be laying out in the sun all day, definitely use actual sunscreen though, better safe than sorry.) Another plus to tinted moisturizer is it gives your skin a light dewy coverage that gives you that “your skin but better” look and feel. My new found favorite is by Too Faced, it’s their Tinted Beauty Balm and whoa is this stuff good. For reference, I wear the shade Vanilla Glow. It lasts all day, which is usually an issue with tinted moisturizers. I highly recommend this product! I’ll be doing a rant or rave on it in the upcoming weeks, so keep an eye out for that.

No. 2: Highlighting Blush. Giving your cheeks a glowing flush gives you that amazing inner glow look. This is critical in achieving that healthy glowing look. As I said in my Rant vs Rave, I’m in love with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush. My favorite shade is Diffused Heat, it works incredibly well for my skin tone. This blush lasts basically all day, and looks incredibly natural.

No. 3: Highlighter. For glowing skin, a highlighter is a no brainer. Personally, I’m really not a fan of stick highlighters. They smear my makeup and give an obvious look instead of a natural glow. My recommendation would be a powder version. Hourglass has some very hyped highlighters that I would recommend, but my personal favorite is the Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duo. (Holy long name Batman…)

No. 4: Quality Mascara. In the warmer weather, I kind of hate having to wear a lot of eye makeup. It either seems to smudge everywhere, or is honestly just super annoying. So I like to opt for a really good mascara that is going to stay put all day and make my lashes stand out enough to not need any help from eyeliner or eye shadow. My favorite mascara that checks all the boxes is the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara. It gives me length while giving me enough volume to look good from far away. It lasts all day and doesn’t flake, what more could a girl ask for?

No. 5: Brown Pencil. If you’re going with minimal makeup and focusing on skin, your brow game needs to be strong. My favorite tried and true brow pencil is the Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil. It has a spooly on the end which is so helpful for blending and taming wild brows. I love this pencil because it lasts all day, and in case you haven’t noticed yet, staying power is something I highly value in my makeup products. I use the medium brown shade and it give the perfect natural brow shade for me.

Hopefully you’ve found some new makeup products to try out, and a natural makeup look to try out. Would you guys want to see a turtorial on a simply glowing makeup look? Let me know in the comments. This post wraps up the little spring series for this week, which I hope you’ve enjoyed! Have a fabulous day and tune back in tomorrow for an outfits of the week post!

Rant or Rave: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush

Hello loves! I decided to kick off a new sort of series-ish on the blog: Rant or Rave. I am definitely one of those people who either loves or hates something, so this seemed like an appropriate title. That being said, I recently bought a LOT of new makeup, because I got sucked into the black hole called Sephora. *sigh* I tried to resist, I really did. So let me know if you like this, because I have a lot more reviews ready and waiting!

As you probably guessed by the title, we’re going to chat about the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush today. And spoiler alert, this is definitely a rave product. I cannot get over how natural it looks. People have honestly come up to me and told me I looked healthier since I started wearing this, which makes me wonder how ill I looked on a daily basis that they felt the need to say something. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed hearing that! I love this blush from many reasons, but one big reason is the fact that it stays on ALL DAY. Yes, it fades slightly, but makeup is kind of like old houses in that way, they settle throughout the day. So you just have to let them do their thing and hope for the best! And this blush is definitely the best. The glowing qualities in this blush give you a nice “I just ran a mile” kind of look that is killer. (Am I the only one who actually likes how my skin looks after a long run?) So this product gets a rave review from me!

I purchased the shade Diffused Heat, which is a deep pink color that they describe as a “vibrant poppy,” if that helps at all. The Ambient Lighting Blush comes in six different shades, which somehow have almost all skin tones covered. Which is wild, because this never happens. They have a great range of cool tones, warm tones, and a variety of dark to light. So if you’re in need of a new blush, I definitely recommend trying this one out! Have a fabulous day!
